Isar - the last wild river of Germany
After the Danube and the Main, the Isar is Bavaria’s third-largest river, with a total length of 295 kilometers—263 of which flow through Bavarian territory. It is also Germany’s last major wild river. Its source lies in the Karwendel mountains.
The Isar floodplains between Bad Tölz and Lake Sylvenstein are part of a designated landscape conservation area. They provide a habitat for numerous rare plant and animal species—and offer a beautiful space for recreation. Please respect this unique natural environment and help protect it by following a few simple rules:
Please follow these guidelines:
- Keep a distance from gravel islands and bars marked with the yellow bird sign.
- Only park in designated parking areas.
- Do not light fires, barbecue, camp, or stay overnight.
- Keep noise to a minimum.
- Do not pick any plants.
- Take your litter with you.
- Respect wildlife—do not disturb wild animals.
