As Lenggries is the “gate to the Karwendel-range”, it is the perfect starting point for many hiking tours in these mountains!
The Scharfreuter (2102 metres and Lenggries’ highest mountain) is a popular mountain due to its beautiful view at the beginning of the Karwendel-range. It is located south of the lake “Sylvensteinsee” and is flanked west by the valley “Rißtal” (or “Rißbach-Tal”) and its corresponding road. A fast ascent trail begins at the branch of the Lecktal valley near Hinterriß (928 metres) and leads via the mountain hut Tölzer Hütte (1825 metres) to the a bit more challenging summit zone. At the summit cross you get a beautiful view to the northern part of the Karwendel-range and to the nearby mountain group Falkengruppe. Alternatively, you can also start your tour at the hut Oswaldhütte (840 metres, located in the valley Rißtal) – the summit ridge of the Schafreuter is hereby reached via the Kälbereck (1758 m) and the north-west flank. Both tours can be combined to a circular route, however, the final route in the valley Rißtal (road back to the starting point) must be adjusted.
We also offer a wide range of guided tours in the Karwendel-range. You can also get hiking maps in the Tourist Information Centre. Visitors mustn’t miss a trip to the valley Eng and its natural sight “Ahornboden” which is a large meadow with many maple trees. From mid-June to mid-October, there is a daily hiking bus from Lenggries to Eng.
