This worth seeing calvery with two chapells on its top was built 1694 by count Ferdinand Joseph von Herwarth the castle lord of Hohenburg. It`s the oldest calvery of bavaria and the model for the calvery in Bad Tölz. The calvery in Bad Tölz was built in the first part of the 18th century.
At the end of the symmetric stone steps there was already 1665 a larger-than-life-size crucifixion group there, cast in copper. Two of this figures are still at the calvery. That are the figures of Mary and Johannes.
The chapel of holy cross was built 1726. The holy steps inside the chapel are a replica of the scala santa in rome. A collection of votive images vividly depicts the dangers of working in the mountains and commemorates, among other events, the Battle of Sendling in 1705.
The capel of holy cross is open every Sunday from 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm.
