Museum of local history

The museum of local history Lenggries, at Rathausplatz 2, shows the precios culture treasure of the Isar valley in seven exhibition areas. In the rooms of the permanent exhebition you get informations to the historical fauna in the area of Lenggries as well as the beginning of the historiy in the Isar vally. During the early bronze age, the area along the upper Isar near Lenggries was settled. In middle age two castles were built in an ideal strategical location to lock the Isar vally. The museum shows also the connection between castle and village since the modern era up to now. Important stations are the local history, Antlaßschützen, religion of the people and traditional dresses. Via tradition, handicraft, agriculture and alpine farming you come to timer rafting. That's what Lenggries is known for, both then and now. Since the year 2009 Lenggries is a so called international timber rafting village. But you can also find the hunting and its counterpart, poaching in the museum. Last but not least you come to the 20th and 21th century with the items travic, tourism and skiing.

The museum of local history is accessible to wheelchair users via a stairlift. We accept the Volunteer Card.
