You can`t ignore it: at this place we experience the Isar as a guideline for traffic. Train and main road are side by side. Since many centuries the Isar has been a center of traffic.
If you turn around and look back to the bridge you can see why. You see a memorial for timber rafting. Up to the beginning of this century timber rafting was an important transport bussines to Munic and some times also to Donau and Wien. The abundance of wood in this area (named „Isarwinkel“) built the basic for timber rafting. The river Isar was like a water road. The cities all aroand were good customers, because they needed wood to built and as fuel.
Time by time they needed more and more. In addition rubble, quicklime, and charcoal had been shiped down the Isar. Even the person traffic was ruled by a schedule.
